Did the 23rd April pass you by last week without notice. It did me and I think it did most people. St George’s day doesn’t evoke the same passion as it use to and my wife and I were only discussing the lack of community spirit that has also passed with the waning of national pride. I wonder whether we will see the same street parties for the Queens Diamond jubilee in 2012 as we saw for the Silver Jubilee of ’77 ? I expect more people will be inside seeing what films are on the TV because an extra Bank Holiday has been granted.

I am not sure where this is going and I am hardly one to preach about community spirit. My wife went on to remind me that I hardly even talk to the neighbours when mowing the lawn so I am not likely to be getting my ladder out to hang bunting from the lampposts. Anyway on to those St George’s Cross wedding invitations…..

Only joking. I am not ensure even the most fervent England supporter who is getting married on World Cup final day this year would sanction a red cross on the front of their wedding invites but they may be interested in restoring a little national pride with the Emblems range of wedding stationery from CCA. It was by coincidence that I was adding the Emblems range to our site on St George’s day without realising what day it was. The Emblems range does not exclude our fellow islanders and the designs feature a national symbol for England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland by way of rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock respectively. You can find the Emblems range of stationery on our site in the Name the Day collection. Personalised wording is printed on a white insert and invitations come with white envelopes as standard.

PS. If anyone is interested in arranging their own street party for the World Cup, Queen’s jubilee, their wedding, their cat’s birthday or any other excuse for a good knees up then these websites are a good place to start. The Big Lunch website (a heroic attempt to revive street party atmosphere was organised by the Eden Project last year) and Street Party (a charitable organisation who promote small scale community street parties)

If you are Scottish you may want to have a thistle design to encompass your national flower symbol in your wedding theme, or you may just love thistles, but many of the thistle wedding stationery designs on the market can be a little too traditional looking and some I’ve seen are quite frankly dowdy! However I came across this Modern Thistle wedding invitation from Wanderlust Cards who are indeed a Scottish company and I think they have designed a beautiful card with the simple thistle image and the couples names and wedding date printed on the plain wallett. The thistle head has a little dusting of sparkle which unfortunately you can’t see from the photograph but I imagine it would finish off the simplicity of the design perfectly. The inner card that has the details printed on has a tassle to remove it from the wallett and this tassle comes in a variety of colours to give you the flexibility to colour coordinate to your wedding colours.
