With a title like that I just knew you couldn’t resist a nosey at this post.

I usually have a quick look each day to see who Google is ranking on its first page for popular wedding search terms such as “Wedding Stationery” and “Wedding Invitations” and usually it is the same old companies that crop up again and again. In fact we don’t usually cover many of them on this site because the chances are you have come across them already. There was one that caught my eye this morning that appeared from nowhere in the Google top 10 and that was the Wedding Sheepy from Sheep Poo Paper.

This light hearted design is colourfully described as the most “ewe-nique” wedding cards you have ever come across. Who am I to disagree? The puns continue and Sheep Poo Paper reliably inform of more useless but nevertheless entirely relevant information :

Please note, a real sheep does not comfortably wear a top hat or a tiara – even when attending very formal ovine events.

and

On a more serious note, real sheep do NOT get married – mainly because of the difficulty in obtaining that right dress.

Now, on a genuinely more serious note you might like to know that Sheep Poo Paper is made by Creative Paper Wales the only craft paper mill in Wales and all their paper is made from recycled materials. Their production processes are environmentally friendly too. Hats off to them and their sheep.

This is rather a niche sector of the wedding stationery market, but if having your best (and worst) features immortalised in exaggerated form on the covers of your wedding invites tickles your fancy then you will be pleased to hear there are no shortage of talented cartoonists ready to embarrass you.

This website used to showcase individual designs from selected wedding stationery companies until it took on its current editorial format. When it was first conceived back in 2003 one of the first companies to feature on the site was the Caricature Card Company. I remember, when we exhibited some of their sample cards at the UK Wedding Show at Wembley London a year later they drew quite a crowd because they really were something original and offered brides different to all the hearts and bells that featured so prominently in the everyday wedding stationery albums.

Well five years later and the same main companies are still around and I am sure are still in high demand for couples wishing to add some humour to their wedding invitations. I remembered the names of 5 years ago and have revisited their websites. I was pleased to see that all of them have added to their web portfolio of example work. Whilst of course, it is not possible to see the finished piece until you have commissioned the artist it is important to get a feel of the their style of work so you can a least visualise how your invitations might look. There are others of course but you may wish to check out the following sites :

The Caricature Card Company- As mentioned above. A very polished and informative site with some novel pop up cards that caught my eye. The cartoonist, Gary Thornburn, has a very unique style and skin tones have an airbrushed realism.

Caricature Weddings- The talented artist behind this company sticks very closely to the original photos supplied. A save bet if you don’t want them to make a point of your Barry Manilow style nose or your Jimmy Hill chin.

Olde n Ugly – This company close to the New Forest in Hampshire have branched into more traditional lines since we first came across them five years ago but they still have caricature wedding cards as their core offering

To personalise your caricature wedding cards even more the artist may ask about your interests, work activities etc so that the two of you can be in a staged setting that is of relevance. If you are marrying overseas for instance then the two of you can be sketched in to a beach and palm tree backdrop. If the groom is mad about football then the couple could be easily incorporated into a football pitch with the groom dressed in his team’s colours.
